This project was a HVAC energy upgrade for the heating boilers and the domestic water heaters for the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. The jail had (2) PVI boilers at 4.0 million BTU each that were 100% standby. They replaced those with (4) Lochinvar’s Crest 2.0 million BTU each condensing boilers, where two boilers were run as a set to accommodate the load. Then the boilers will switch to the other set of two boilers based on a rotation schedule. With this setup, we were able to get the total system turndown to 50:1 (25:1 on each boiler).
Along with the boilers, they also upgrade the water heater as well. They had (3) PVI tank-type water heaters. They replaced those with (3) Lochinvar’s Armor X2 1.5 million BTU condensing water heaters along with (5) Lochinvar’s Lock-Temp Storage Tanks with 432 gallons capacity each. These units have a 10:1 turndown each and also have internal redundancy, which is a big plus for a jail that always need domestic hot water!
They also upgrade chilled water pumps, with Armstrong’s 4300 inline vertical pumps, along with all their domestic re-circulation pumps with Armstrong’s E.2 Series pumps.
